While it’s our third boy, I have to say I’ve been able to relax more during this pregnancy than with my others. How is that even possible with two other kids running around? Well, when I say relax, I certainly don’t mean lay on the couch and watch Netflix shows all day long (that sounds amazing). But I’m not worrying about every little kick or bump or illness. I know which medications are OK, which aren’t, and what I actually need to do to get prepped this time around. Overall I just feel a lot more prepared for what’s about to come our way, and with that, excited about all the great things newborns bring. One thing I’m not prepped for admittedly: the craziness of three. But I keep telling myself we’ll roll with it just like one, and two!
I feel so thankful that there just isn’t a lot to report here. My doctor appointments have been routine, I’m gaining weight at an average rate, feel generally good (besides these nasty bugs that keep hitting our family), and feel comfortable knowing this time around it’s a scheduled c-section (I tried for a v-bac with Beau and that didn’t happen, so this time around there was really only one choice). I feel pretty awesome knowing the exact date little man is going to make his debut (May 4 – may the 4th be with you!)
My Newborn Wishlist
I have a small but highly curated list for baby boy. Several of our major items got a lot of love with Shep and Beau, so need to be replaced. Other new baby items have come on the market and I really want to give them a try. Here’s my baby wish list. Have you tried any of these items?
Snoo: I’m on the fence on this one, but I’ve never had a bassinet I loved, and I know how valuable sleep is. This bassinet was invented by the Dr. of the 5 s’s, and it rocks gently while keeping the baby tightly swaddled. It’s pretty pricey, but they run specials quite often. Have you tried it?
Snugapuppy Swing: The Fisher Price swings are my favorite. With Beau I had it but bought it off a swap site, then we moved, so I got rid of it (I think I paid $25 for it!) The swinging music is magic for babies, and now I need another one for this baby.
4moms Playyard: We have several playyards but none that are easy to travel with or to set up. This one is more on Clint’s wish list then mine, but regardless, we need to replace ours for sure!
LifeFactory Baby Bottles: Just like Shep and Beau, I’ll give nursing my best shot, but if I end up pumping or formula feeding (all great options!) I want to try these bottles. I love glass bottles for how easy they are to clean, and I’m so over all the major parts in Dr. Brown’s bottles.
What Shep & Beau Think
By far, this has been my favorite part of the pregnancy. Shep is so interested in the baby, and always talks about how he’s the BIGGEST brother! He loves tickling my belly, calling the baby by his name (yes, we have one picked out!), and talking about how he wants to feed him bottles, but won’t change diapers because that’s only for daddies and mommies. At first Beau had no clue what was happening, but I think he’s caught on to Shep and loves tickling my belly and lifting my shirt up to see it (but I think he thinks the baby is my belly button!)
So before the baby is born, we have a long list of projects to tackle (sorry Clint!) The biggest one on that list is our master bathroom remodel, which we are definitely not handling ourselves, but have been heavily involved in picking everything out, the design, etc. (it’s near a full-on gut of the current master bath). That’s slated to take about a month starting in February, so I’m equally excited and overwhelmed with that going on so soon before the baby comes. As for the nursery, Beau will be moving into Shep’s room (we’ll see how that goes), and I’ll make a few updates to the nursery, but really don’t have to do a lot (true third child style!)
I’m finishing up this blog post from Key Biscayne, a small island off the coast of Miami. It’s been so relaxing having this time kid-free, and I had so much time I finally got around to blogging again! Kid-free vacations aren’t easy to come by these days, but every time we do it I think to myself how important they are. We’re staying at the Ritz-Carlton resort, which is true to its brand and has beyond beautiful and relaxing. We got upgraded to a suite after explaining we are having our third child (we’ll take the pity!) and Clint got free drinks for the same reason 🙂
Have a lovely weekend!
