One area I haven’t been good about balancing in my life during motherhood has been friendships. When I was working full-time, they admittedly fell to the wayside. I didn’t prioritize time with friends, and tried to pack all my time with work and the boys. But as my boys got older, I craved that friendship. I realized once I moved to Ohio how amazing mom friends could be, how they could pick you back up after tough days, and how trusted friendships really needed that attention.
When I moved here I was so thankful to be nearby some long-time friends, and made friends quickly in our neighborhood since so many of them have young kids too. But what was a little tough was seeing everyone as much as I wanted to. Between kids’ activities, normal everyday errands, house work, working and you name it, there isn’t a whole lot of time left for friends most of the time. So I decided to bring my friends together once a month so I could see them all at once, and hopefully we could all make some new friends. It’s been so fun watching this group grow, and it’s definitely something I look forward to every month.
We’ve done some fun girls nights — wine night, getting pedicures and playgroups at nearby parks. But I thought it would be fun to do something different this month and make our own candles at The Candle Lab.
The Candle Lab is Columbus-based and was founded in 2007, and creates memorable, soy-based candles and other fragrance products (scrubs, lotions and more!). They have stores in Grandview, Short North and Worthington (that’s where our party was!). They have more than 120 amazing scents, but if you are interested in pouring your own candle, you can do that anytime! They love helping customers create their own custom fragrances.
Planning your party. If you are interested in hosting your own girls night at The Candle Lab, it’s super easy. Head over to their website, read about the party options, and reach out to their team for availability. The party itself lasts about 45 minutes, and there are tons of great dinner options nearby where you can go to drink and eat while your candles cool.
Here’s what to expect. During the party, you go through and write down as many of the candles you look as you can. You don’t have to worry about mixing scents, just find the ones that appeal to you (they are all so good!) Then, their team talks through the scents with you and you choose 3 total oils to make your candle. I think our group was surprised which ones smelled good with others. Then, you fill a small cup with your oils, and add as much or as little of each one as you want. You pour into your candle, stir, and you’re done!
The Candle Lab was kind to provide a giveaway for one lucky local winner! The prize includes several pour your own candles, body scrub, seasonal candles, an Olive Blossom candle (one of their signature scents) and lots more goodies. You should be within driving distance to the Columbus area for pickup. Enter at the bottom of the post — contest closes on 10/13.
