I am writing as this as we are 2 hours into our 8 hour car trip to Memphis to meet Shep and Beau’s first-ever cousin, baby Finn. We have traveled a fair amount with both boys, but this is the first time we’ve driven this type of distance with Beau officially being a walker. There is something very different about traveling with a 10 month old vs. an almost-18-month-old. All he wants to do is move move move and it’s just not possible when you’re traveling. Here are some of the items I grabbed via Amazon to make this car ride a little less painful for us all.
1/ Amazon Fire Tablets: Beau doesn’t watch TV, and if you read this recent post, we’ve given up TV for the most part during the day with the boys. That said — that is NOT the case when it comes to travel. Screentime limits go out the window when we are on an 8-hour car trip. We got each of the boys a tablet and loaded them up with movies, games and shows that were appropriate for each of their ages. Shep loves the drawing app and Beau watched Kipper Dog. His attention span wasn’t amazing, but I know by the time we head to Disney next month he may use it more. If you buy two Kids Edition Fire Tablets and use code KIDS2PACK you can save $5
2/ Maxi-Cosi Car Seat: Between the boys we have 2 car seats in each car so we don’t have to flip them out each time we go in either my car or Clint’s. We have one nice car seat for each boy and there’s no rhyme or reason which car they are in. This one is so soft and comfortable, especially for long car rides. But if you saw my Instagram story you can see how “well-loved” it’s been 🙂
3/ Melissa & Doug Take-Along Shape Sorter: Beau is really into shape sorters lately, and this one has an added element of fun because of the zipper. It kept him entertained for 20 minutes which was actually a long time for Beau’s world.
4/ Munchkin Snack Sorters: These are better than the ones we had before because the tops have a tighter lid (aka no spills!) Shep was very particular about having his blue one 🙂
5/ The Woman in Cabin 10: For me, I’m into the book The Woman in Cabin 10 right now. It’s a mysterious book set on a yacht, so it’s thrilling and fast-paced, which I enjoy. I’ll keep you posted how much I recommend it once I’m done!
5b/ I also have to give mention to Shep & Beau’s favorite book of all time, which Beau begged me to read to him dozens of times. If you haven’t yet checked out Pat the Zoo, it’s awesome for kids Beau’s age because of the sensory elements, and it’s essentially a board book, so it’s resistant to their sticky hands.
Best part of the trip? Getting to meet Baby Finn, Shep & Beau’s first cousin! Lindsey and Brett welcomed baby Finn last month and we couldn’t wait to head down to Memphis to meet him for the first time. Shepard practiced his big cousin holding arms and was so excited to hold Finn for the first time (with a little help!). Beau was a lot more interested than I expected and gave Finn a few pats on his head, which was beyond adorable. We’re here all weekend soaking up time with this sweet baby. Makes me miss that precious age!
What are you up to this weekend?
