Are you detoxing in January like everyone else? I’ve got 10 simple indulgences especially for moms like who who just want a few minutes to relax and unwind.
I don’t know about you but by the end of December, you couldn’t have paid me to have another glass of wine or another cookie. Maybe I’m getting old, but my body is begging me to treat it a little bit better.
We had guests for about 2 weeks straight, and while it was a blast, I felt absolutely exhausted and bloated by the end of the celebrations. Hence my resolution to focus on rest.
For the month of January, I’ve created this list of some of my favorite indulgences to help me unwind and have fun – that won’t leave me feeling bloated or groggy like some of my December indulgences did. And these are simple indulgences for me – not my kids or my husband. And we all know that the key to rest isn’t only sleeping (although weekend naps are heavenly). It means doing things for yourself from time to time. Little indulgences can go a long way, don’t you think? Here’s the list:
10 Simple Indulgences for Moms
Nice hand soap. I end up washing my hands dozens of times a day between bottles and dishes and god knows what else my kids end up doing that day. So nice hand soap is a nice little way to brighten my day, while also keeping my hands from getting dry and cracked. Here’s one of my favorites I found on Amazon and keep in the kitchen: Compagnie de Provence Liquid Soap. The bottle is so pretty too!
La Croix. I know, I know, these have been around for awhile now, but they have tons of flavors they didn’t have before. Lime and Cran-Raspberry are my favorites, and I just love how refreshing they are.
Halo Ice Cream. Most of these have less than 300 calories for the entire pint, and they are DELICIOUS. Have you tried any yet? I just love the cake batter version.
Good leggings. I have fallen in love with Zella high waist leggings. My stomach ain’t what it used to be, and these are beyond comfy while also being able to pass for everyday leggings and workout leggings. I had to get a second pair because I couldn’t wash them fast enough.
Soft slippers. My husband (and boys) got me these UGG cozy slippers for my birthday and I’ve been wearing them about everyday since then.
New makeup. I tend to buy the same staples month over month, but I was reading one of my favorite beauty blogger’s sites and decided to give a contouring kit a try. My sisters all love the MAC one, but because I doubt I’d use it much, I wanted to try one that was less expensive. I found the Maybelline Contour kit and even this girl can do it. It’s fun to try new makeup techniques, and I love the colors. Not too muddy or dark, and I managed contouring (I think) thanks to a good YouTube video.
Orange Theory classes. I have heard about these for awhile now and finally gave them a try. While I’ll still keep my YMCA membership that includes childcare, I’ve started going here a couple of times a month to recharge my workout. Plus I love knowing exactly how many calories I’m burning in a session! Makes me feel really guilty all those times I sat on an elliptical and flipped through my phone.
Fresh candles. I’m tossing out our Christmas scents (as lovely as they may be) and want to try some new fresh scents to help us beat those winter blues. I found The Candle Lab, one of Columbus’ local candle shops. They have really creative fragrances (Day at the Spa, Fruit Stand) and I love supporting local businesses, so stocking up now for the rest of winter!
A new top. When I started looking in my closet for something to wear when going out over the holidays, I realized my closet was almost 90% Lilly Pulitzer for “evening out” wear. Which is great when you live in Florida, but here it’s way too cold for those light cotton dresses. I found this one in the picture from this post and for less than $40, you can’t feel guilty about that indulgence.
Catching up on mom blogs. Sometimes I find it is so hard to keep up with all my favorites, it’s become more of a hobby and simple pleasure than something I can do on a daily basis. If you are looking for a few new ones to follow, check out my list on the right hand sidebar. I’m working on a list of my 50 favorite mom blogs (yes 50!) – so please post your favorites in the comments so I can be sure to include it!
